Saybr was contracted by the Starbucks Coffee Company to construct a new opportunity café in White Center, a neighborhood south of Seattle. Unique from the typical Starbucks coffee shop, this café is part of a corporate initiative to invest in at least 15 underserved communities across the U.S. by creating local jobs and partnering with area nonprofit organizations to provide in-store job-skills training for youth, and working with local women- and minority-owned contractors, suppliers and vendors. The White Center Opportunity Café is the seventh such location to open in the country.
Saybr’s scope of work included the complete build-out of an existing retail shell building, including all new interior, partitions, equipment, fixtures, and finishes. In addition to the coffee retail area typical to a standard Starbucks coffee shop, the store also included a training space for job skills training for community members, as well as specialized architectural features, such as retractable overhead doors and local artwork.
